Questions
Is there a free alternative to Coursera?
Khan Academy is free, with no ads, for school and early-college subjects, and freeCodeCamp is free for coding, certifications included. Coursera itself ended its free audit in August 2025; most courses now let you take the first section free, and financial aid can give you full access.
Are Coursera and Udemy the same company now?
Yes. Coursera completed its combination with Udemy on May 11, 2026. Coursera says the two remain separate platforms for now, with separate accounts, and that Coursera subscribers don't get Udemy content yet.
Which Coursera alternative gives a real degree?
None on this list awards a degree today. Coursera's degrees are awarded by accredited university partners. Khan Academy has announced the Khan TED Institute, a higher-education program it is designing to cost under $10,000 in total, with applications expected within 12 to 18 months of April 2026. freeCodeCamp and Codecademy offer their own certifications.
